15 Residents Displaced After Late Night Fire on Macbeth

Around 10:00PM Wednesday night, the St. George Fire Department responded to a fire in the 5600 block of Macbeth Drive, off of Jones Creek in the southern portion of East Baton Rouge Parish. Arriving firefighters reported flames visible from the second story of an apartment there.

Two residents from that apartment had escaped unharmed after being alerted by a smoke alarm.

According to St. George, firefighters had the blaze under control within about 20 minutes. Major damage was reported to the 2nd story and 1st story units from both fire and smoke.

In all, 15 people were displaced by the incident, including 5 children.

St. George notified the Red Cross who responded to the scene and assisted the residents.

A fire at the same apartment complex was caused by lightning in August of last year.
